Oulton Park Review

Well what a fantastic day out out was had by all who attended, the sun shone all day and just got hotter and hotter. Seven scooters and one Yamaha DX (ridden by Darrens's father in law) left the Supertune shop at about 10-15, myself and Darren from the Chester club and Dean and the others were from the Northern Aces. We arrived just in time to see the end of the first scooter practice round and boy were they flying round, they were using the full circuit all the way round Esso bend which proved a long track for the scooters really, taking them around 2 and a half minutes to get round, compared to 1 minute 15 seconds for the top bikes.
After chatting to some of the racers in the paddock we tried viewing from different corners on the track and bumped into Thommo and Garry at Lodge corner, Garry was on his SX, but Thommo had come in his van (with daughter + friend + dog). We later met up with John from Supertune, who had arrived late and his mate Andy who kindly let us use the boot of his car for our helmets and coats.
Both scooter races turned out to be interesting affairs and subject to very close tussles between Charlie Edmonds and Stuart Day on the Lambrettas, both very experienced racers and past champions. We hung on for the last scooter race at 5-15pm and then made tracks back to Chester arriving back around 6 pm.

This Weekend's Scooter Events 31st May+1st June

This weekend there is an event on each day Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday 31st May - Scooter Racing at Oulton Park. The race meeting is one of the rounds of the BSSO (British Scooter Sport Organisiation), which are held around the country at different race tracks and are part of a motorcycle racing day as there are not enough scooters racing to hold a dedicated meeting just for them. There will be around 30 different scooter racers on the day in different classes, some Lammies, some Vespas and some auto's. The racing agenda for the scooters consists of 2 practices and 2 full races, with the first practice starting at 11am. Iknow that John (Darren's mate from Supertune) is going and I think Peter from the shop and various other local scooterists have also shown interest and a loose arrangement has been made to meet at the Supertune shop for 10am, to get up to Oulton in time for the first practice session, it's £12.00 pay on the gate. I intend to go to this one so if anyone wants to contact me to meet up on Saturday, feel free.

Sunday 1st June - Wrexham S.C. Annual Ride-Out. This is the annual ride-out to the Ponderosa Cafe at the top of the Horshoe Pass, down into Llangollen and back to Wrexham for a pint at Walnut Tree pub. They usually have a custom show and trade stands and it's very well organised and attended with over 300 scooters last year. The ride-out leaves Asda carpark opposite the pub at 1-30pm, so I suggest meeting at Clubbies at 12noon and leaving by 12-15 to get down to Wrexham in time to have a quick look around at the scoots before the off.

Jesters s.c. @ Leek ,Staffs

Six scooters left Clubbies at 10.30 for the fifty mile ride to Leek .Gary Clarke(sx200)Bernie and Tracey(sx200),Eugeneand Will (jet 200)Mike Wilford (li 150)Mark(px125) and me (tv200). We picked up Gavin at the rugby club on his t5 on the route out of Chester . The air temp was cold despite the sunshine but as we have said before the scooter engines really sing along on cold ,damp air. We met up with four lads from wrexham on the approach to Nantwich ,one of whom managed to hit an orange lane marker, bounce off the kerb and end up in the middle of the road .He was a bit scraped, but unhurt .His t5 had scratched panels and the front brake leverwas broken off. We were told the panels on both sides were scratched because he fell off yesterday as well !!
We arrived in Leek about 12.30 and just managed to squeeze into the Square behind the red lion pub ,the focal point of the do . Iwould guess a couple of hudred scooters ,with a lot of "fully moded". The band was " Debonair "and started up ten minutes after we arrived, with alot of good "sooter" tunes . The Hog Roast was a bargain at £2 and really delicious, all in all an excellent venue ,with more than the normal number of dealers stalls for a one day show . We left at three and some of us called in the Durham Heiffer onthe way back to have a drink and a bite with Ade and Lisa and family . A good scootering day ,no rain ,mostly sunshine .I clocked 140 miles ,so the Chester ones did 100 roundtrip.

Leek Jesters Scooterfest 4 Sunday 18th May

This coming Sunday 18th May is the annual Leek Jesters Scooterfest which is held in a really good location, in a car park in the centre of the town which is surrounded by pubs, how good is that !! There are usually plenty of trade stalls and a good custom show, also maybe a hog roast and live music. It's a good ride about 45 miles from Clubbies, but an easy route through Nantwich and Stoke on good roads.

For those who fancy this one I suggest meeting at 10am at Clubbies and setting off by 10-15am, this should get us there for 12 to 12-30, perfect for the start of the custom show.

Route is A51 to Nantwich, follow M6 motorway signs to junction 16 M6, straight across onto the A500 to Stoke, then take the A53 to Leek.

Northwich Thundersprint

Five scooters left Clubbies for this one, picking up Gavin en route. When we eventually found the meeting place at Stretton, none of us could believe our eyes at the turnout of scooters, there must have been over 200 scooters parked up in a super little private road just off J10 M56, loads of lads from all over Lancashire, with Liverpool and Manchester clubs having quite a number in attendance.

The ride-out into Northwich was very well organised by the local club, (Omega SC) with good marshalling holding back the cars so we could get into the town. We parked up at Northwich Glass and filled their carpark, this was in a very good spot as it was only 10 mins walk down to the Thundersprint venue and the weather for this one was excellent, with the sun really beating down all afternoon.

Once we had managed to find a viewing point the cheerleader girls kicked the show off then there was a circuit by an open backed truck with ex-bike champions waving to the crowd including Giacomo Agostini, for those that don't know he was motorbike GP champion on the MV Agusta 15 times through the 60's + 70's and still a good looking bloke even at 65 years of age. There was even a display by one of the last remaining flying Spitfires and very good the pilot was too.

The Thundersprint itself was perhaps a little disappointing with the vintage bikes all doing a timed lap around the main shopping car park, most times averaging around 27 seconds, with the fastest one I saw 24.9 secs. However the grand stands were all full and there must have been thousands of people there for the day out and what's amazing is that it was all totally FREE.

We had a good ride back along the A51 through Kelsall and Tarvin, dodging the speeding bikers all the way back. All in all an excellent and different day out.

Northwich Thundersprint Run - Sunday 11th May

This Sunday the 11th May is the Northwich Thundersprint annual festival and although predominantly a bikers event for vintage and modern bikes, it is a fun day out for everyone.

The ride-out (for the scooters) is being organised by Omega S.C. from Northwich and is being supported by the Lancashire Alliance. There is a meeting point for the scooters near Warrrington, with a mass ride into Northwich, departing at 12 Noon, the details taken off the Lancashire Alliance website is as follows -

Meet at the entrance to the Shire Hospital, Stretton, Nr. Warrington on the A49 / M56 junction 10 at 11:30am. Depart at 12:00pm for mass ride into Northwich town centre parking at the Matalan carpark to watch the annual Thundersprint. (Classic Motorbike Racing around the town centre). Details on http://www.thundersprint.com/
Contacts Trevor - 07761625075 or Nigel - 07989953561

I suggest that for those who are interested we meet up at Clubbies at 10-15 to leave at 10-30, this should give us plenty of time to get over to Warrington to meet up with the other scooterists. I hope to go on this one, so I will work out a suitable route to get to the Stretton meeting point.

Llandudno Scooter Rally 2008

Picture link at the bottom of post.

Graham and Bernie left Chester for the Saturday run out to Llandudno, meeting up with Dave at Holywell. Dave then lead us on an interesting route through Dyserth, Rhuddlan, Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Rhos on Sea and finally into Llandudno, which was jammed packed with cars and people due to at least two other big events going on over the week-end as well as the scooter rally.

We finally parked up outside the View cafe and took a well earned coffee break before having a look around the Custom Show which was outside the main Venue Cymru building, with the trade stalls inside. There was a fair turn out of scooterists from all over the North West and Midlands, but not as many as I was expecting. The weather stayed dry and as the day wore on it got warmer and brighter until the sun eventually broke through from the middle of the afternoon.

We took a detour to Pete and Tina's campsite for a cup of tea before heading home in the reverse route, all in all an excellent day's riding.

Well done the lads for braving the rain on Sunday, it looks like it kept mostly dry for you anyway. I have now added Daves pictures to the link above.

Polo Shirts with club logo

I have got my act together ,at last ,to organise a polo shirt with the club badge on .Uniformity clothing next door to Clubbies can do the whole job for us for £15 per shirt. We have gone for Fruit of the Loom make as these were our old Centurions shirts and have worn well . Colour is white and there are male and female versions .This is a heavy duty polo with the red white and blue wolfs head emblem embroidered int the shirt ,65mm diameter badge . the next step is to get the names and sizes of everyone who wants one ,we need at least 20 to start this off.
Have a look at the sizes below and let me know your size and how many you want by posting in the comments box at the bottom of this box
MENS S=36"-38" , M=38"-40" ,L=42"-44", XL=46",XXL=48",3XL=50"-52"

LADIES , XS=8, S=10, M=12 ,L=14, XL=16 . Ialready have orders for about ten ,so the sooner the list fills up ,the sooner we get the shirts . Dave .

Llandudno Rally ,this weekend

Sorry to be so late posting about this do ,but I was hoping to get some opinion from the members at the club meeting last night.Unfortunately I was the only member at Clubbies last night,so we are no further forward ! Some are going down Friday and staying till Monday .Some are going Sat or Sunday and not staying .
I would suggest meet at Clubbies 10.30 am on Sat. and again on Sunday for anyone in the chester area wanting to ride down on either day . I will probably go both days but will not come into Chester but am happy to meet up on route . If anyone wants to do this ring or text me .If you've got a legshield banner put it on if you can ,it always looks good when there's scooters from all over the country,we are very lucky to have a national scooter rally so near to home,so support it if you can ,cheers to all for now ,see you at the weekend, Dave.
P.S. LIVE BANDS on Friday "JAM'D " and Sat. "BASKETCASE",so I will be going back down again Sat .night ,but by car !

North Wales Nomads "Into the Valley " 20th april 2008

For more picture click HERE and select slideshow at the top of the page.

Well done to Steve for making this his first long ride with the club after buying a new PX125 ! Exactly the same as last year ,the weather forecast was all doom and gloom ,but just the same it was an over the top forecast and apart from a few early spits and spots it remained dry and cold for the whole trip . Six "chester "scooters left macdonalds ,Mold ,with eight club members ,for the run via St Asaph to Abergele where over seventy scoots came together for the event .This years route went inland from Abergele through the hills to Llanfair T.H. and on down into the valley of the Conway via Llanwrst ,up to Betwys-y-Coed for the lunch break .The return route back to Conwaywas supposed to cross to the far bank andreturn via Trefriw.Due to confusion when Chester scoots left to refuel the other sixty odd scoots followed (nobody likes to be left behind !!)and the wrong road was taken by the rideout! Chester s.c. followed the planned route ,now alone, back via Conway ,Llandudno prom ,Colwyn Bay ,back to the finish in Abergele! It all made for a good laugh when we walked into the Nomads pub they were trying to sort out who in their club had messed it up ! Sorry lads ! An uneventfull ride back from Abergele via Rhuddlan ,Dyserth ,Lloc ,Holywell ,with acold wind in our faces (Steves bringing more clothes next time !)ended a ride of close on 135miles for those from Chester, well done all .Theres afew more photos I will pass to Graham to post for us and Ithink steve took some to. Dave.

New Quay Rally 4/5/6th April

More pictures at the bottom of the page

Pete and Tina ,Judy and I decided to have a go at this rally this year as we missed it last year. It was advertised on the Welsh Scooter Forum website as a tickets only do so we sent for them and booked a B+B in nearby New Quay. With a bad weather forecast and Tina struggling with a throat infection Pete made the decision to get Tina to follow us down with the car and trailer, just in case ! We left Holywell 11.30 Friday and planned to stop for coffee at Rhugg on the A5 . We accidently met up with six scooters from Wrexham s.c. and all decided to carry on down together via Bala, Dolgellau,Aberystwyth to New Quay . Weather was dry with low cloud nearly on the roads through the mountain passes but it was very cold . Ferret and Dave from Wrexham set a fast pace and I was glad of a refuel stop at Dolgellau ,as Judy and I were the only "two up" scooter, but as a 44year old 200 Lammy will always hold its own against a 4 year old 200 vespa we didnt have any great problem !!
The "do" was based at the Llanina Hotel at Llanarth ,just outside New Quay .A good venue, for camping and the pub with the night do on Friday and Saturday nights but a three mile journey to New Quay town ,a great little harbour town with an excellent choice of pubs and eating places .Friday night music and party got into full swing by 11,Saturday night was the same thing again ,a live band would have given it a bit of variety .Steve Flynn and his wife turned up on Saturday morning ,as a couple of dealers set up there stalls for a parts fair. The "rideout ",planned for 1pm ,never materialised so we had our own ride to Aberaeron up the coast in bright sunshine, but an ever stronger freezing cold wind . We came out the B+B on Sunday morning to falling snow accompanied by a freezing cold wind.Boy, was I glad that Pete had brought the car and trailer, with enough room for two scooters !!
Would I go again ? Yes! The roads are some of the best for an interesting ride, scooter parking was safe and easy in a little town were parking a car would be a nightmare.Only criticism would be a bit more laid on during the Saturdayand a live band on Saturday night .Apart from Wrexham s.c ,Telford Tigers,Salford Knights and Cloud 9 the rest were from south Wales and Istill havent a clue the name of the organising club, but whoever they were thanks lads ,it was a good effort!!Will send Graham the rest of the pictures to put on later .Dave.

Easter Egg Run 2008

The rain thankfully kept off for our annual Easter Egg Run to The Children's Ward of The Countess of Chester Hospital and this year broke all previous records with a total of 54 scooters parked up at The Grosvenor Arms before we set off.
It was also a record for the number of eggs delivered this year as can be seen from the photos and grateful thanks are given to Pat and all of the regulars from The Grosvenor pub and the other businesses who genorously donated to our charitable scooter run. In particular, thanks go to the staff of the following companies and businesses - Browns of Chester, Alans Skip Hire, Royal House Pharmacy, Airbus Hanger 92 lads, Chester Against Business Crime and all The Security Staff and of course thanks to all of the individual scooterists who brought easter eggs along.
Chester Scooter Club would like to thank all of the scooterists who made the effort to come along and support this event, including Dabbers Scooter Club from Crewe + Nantwich, The Atherton Scooter Boys + Girls who made the longish trip over from Lancashire, The Northern Aces, The Chosen Few, Ellesmere Port Scooter Club and all the individual scooterists from around the local area, what a fantastic way to start off 2008.
