Lake Vyrnwy ride , Sept 30th 2007
With a dissapointing turnout of only two scooters the day didnt look promising ,but as often happens, you get one of the best rideouts of the season ! We planned to take the Oswestry by pass, the road to Welshpool then offthrough Llansantffraid on B roads to Lake Vyrnwy
As we got to the Chirk roundabout ,Bernie and Tracey wernt behind me anymore . The sx200 had nipped up after a swift run down the Wrexham by pass . I think it took fright when we were passed by a pack of at least twenty Harley Davidsons, one of whom gave us a blast with his American Cop siren ! Friendly enough ,probably off the reservation..... The sun came out on the last few miles of the approach to the Dam ,very spectacular. Avisit to a cafe in an old farm high above the lake for a superb cream tea was just what was needed before tackling the Hirnant Pass over the mountains to the north towards Bala . Its a single track road through some of the most spectacular scenery in Wales .We met two cars in the ten mile ride, good job with some of the bends and steep climbs . Both Lammies lapped it up and once back in Bala it was the usual run back via Llandegla going our seperate ways at Treuddyn . I clocked a total of 120 miles from home to home ,not a drop of rain . We will definitely do this one again next year, possibly the other way round !

Aberdovey Rideout Sept . 9th 2007
Aberdovey ride Sept 2007 |
10am Sunday saw only 3 scooters " up for it " at Clubbies . The forecast was dry but cloudy ,so the temps were down ,so all scooters singing along , but all the riders glad they had stuck to several layers of clothing . A few spots of rain over llandegla moors and on to Bala to meet up with Gary Clarke and Perry .Adam + Linnie, Bernie + Tracey , Dave+ Judy all now re fuelled and the 5 scooters pressed on at a good pace towards Dolgellau taking the short cut (and steep climb) through Brithdir . Earlier ,on a long ,uphill stretch Adam suffered a"nip up " heat seizure ,even though the engine has done nearly 3000 miles. This was blamed on reducing the oil from 25:1 to 33:1 also on "Crazy Bollocks "(alias Bernie Griffiths ) for keeping such afast pace ! No harm done, anextra slurp of oil added and next stop superb pub bythe lakeTal y llyn .After a coffee its on to Aberdyfi and excellent fish and chips at Walkers on the sea front .A stroll around the harbour followed before setting off up the coast via Tywyn,Fairborne back to Dolgellau .As we waited to get out onto the A470 Garys SX200 cut out . After a lot of trial and error repairs it couldnt be coaxed back into life and the phone call to Perrys girlfriend to rescue them was made . The remainig three scooters reluctantly left Gary and Perry sitting ,very relaxed,on a bench, under a tree,in the middle of nowhere .A sad end for them after a superb ride . Alast coffee stop at Bala and then hammer on as the light is starting to go splitting our seperate ways after llandegla moor ,D+J towards Mold and Holywell , Bernie ,Adam and the girls on to Chester .Excellent rideout, lets go again next summer ! I clocked 200 miles ,only 20 less than the ride back from the Isle of Wight ! CLICK ON THE PHOTO TO SEE THE OTHERS

Isle of Wight 2007 |
Isle of Wight weekend - Photos taken by Dave and Judy, Pete and Tina.
Once again we decided to ride down , setting off on Thursday at 8a.m. from Holywell meeting up with Pete and Tina at Whitchurch. Superb weather, scooters both enjoying the cool morning air. A brief stop at Kidderminster for coffee was followed by a very long stop in a layby at Gloucester when Pete's SX developed horrible heavy mechanical noises! Recovery was the only option. So Pete and Tina returned to Whitchurch on a truck while Dave and Judy went on alone to Cheriton and our B &B for the night, 220 miles from Holywell. Imagine our surprise at 9.30 the next morning when Pete and Tina turned up on Tina's new Vespa LXV having left Whitchurch at 4am! True scooterists! We all caught the boat lunch time Friday despite Dave's navigation error taking him away from Portsmouth towards London! We arrived on the Island in glorious weather which was to last the entire weekend. After dumping our cases we met up with Bernie, Tracy, Adam and Linney on Sandown seafront for a drink.
On Saturday morning we all left the B&B together for the short ride to the rally campsite and parts fair at Smallbrook Stadium, meeting up with John and Darren (Supertune) on their stall, also meeting up with Tommo, Gary and Mark. On Saturday afternoon we visited the custom show at the Ice Rink just in time to see Carl Ceplis win a bag of trophies with his scooter Zulu. Well done Carl!
As usual there was a great variety of venues for evening do's, both in Sandown and Ryde. The highlights for us this year were the Liquid Lounge(the Small Fakers) and The Town Club in Star Street, Ryde which featured Ska , Bluebeat, reggae and two tone music with much lively dancing and with bitter at £1.30 a pint Dave was in his element!
Sunday morning saw us all heading for Ryde seafront for the mass ride-out. This year an attempt was to be made on the GUINESS Book of Records for the largest uninterupted convoy of scooters. The holders of this record are Italians with 400 scooters. We believe the record was broken with something like 1100 scooters! We await confirmation.
On Monday we all packed up ready for the journey back to the mainland, Bernie and co retrieving their hire van in Southampton and Dave and co riding back up to Cheriton and the B&B, where the owners of the B&B laid on a BBQ for us and invited other friends including Chris from the Eastleigh Spitfires SC who helped us out last year when we broke down in the village! (The same damned SX!)
We had an uneventful ride home on the Tuesday, sad that it was all over but glad to be off the scooter. Hope to be there next year.

Durham Heifer / Chester Scooter Club Event Report and Pictures
Enjoy the pictures from the day -
The day started with dry weather with even bits of blue sky visible, so it was up and get ready and down to The Grosvenor in Handbridge for the 11am mass rideout over to Ade + Lisa's. There was an excellent turn out of scooters when I arrived and by 11-15am there must have been 90 scooters that left Handbridge for the rideout, which took the route down the Wrexham Road, along the A55 and off at Sainsbury's rounabout for the easy run down the A41 to Broxton.
Most of the scooters arrived at The Durham Heifer O.K. at around 12- noon, with only one or two minor breakdowns and one lad who had a puncture.
Ade + Lisa had worked very hard to make the pub very welcoming and they were soon hard at work cooking the burgers and hot dogs on the BBQ. The rear garden was well set out with loads of seating and there was plenty of covered areas ready for the inevitable rain that was to come later. The far side of the pub was set up for the trade stands and there were at least five different stands selling scooter parts and clothing, which was very impressive. The scooters just kept coming and coming and at it's busiest at about 1pm we estimated there were 150 scooters parked up around the pub.
The band 'Moses' arrived a little later than planned at about 1-45pm but soon got set up in the covered gazebo in the garden, the wait was well worth it as they soon got into playing their excellent covers of the Jam and Paul Weller and also played tracks from The Small Faces, The Who, Jet and others. The band really lifted the spirit of the crowd as the rain started to lash down, but it didn't deter Dave Buckley from his dance routine and he was soon joined by others happily dancing in the rain.
Chester Scooter Club would like to thank all the scooterists who made the effort to come and support this event, some travelling long distances from Liverpool, Southport, Stoke on Trent and North Wales, we hope you all enjoyed yourselves and were not too dissapointed that we didn't do any custom show or gave prizes for other categories, but as this was a first for us we just wanted to keep things simple and make sure people just relaxed and had a good time.
Also a big thank you must go out to Adrian and Lisa and family for having the bottle to host this event at The Durham Heifer, which is a wonderful venue with plenty of room and has great potential for further scooter events, thank you very much - roll on next year.

Isle of Man Scooter Rally - Report and Pictures.
Well a fantastic week-end was had by all and nine scooters left Clubbies a little later than planned due to the ferry being delayed because of high winds in the Irish Sea. We had a trouble free if blustery ride through to the Isle of Man ferry terminal in Liverpool and checked in and parked up together to wait for the ferry to come in. The 11-15am sailing soon developed into a 1-15pm sailing, but as soon as the ferry arrived we were all fairly quickly aboard with the scooters strapped down.
The crossing proved to be a pretty rough storm force 7 affair with most people going fairly quiet and sitting still to get through any feelings of sea sickness. We arrived in Douglas around 4pm and all headed off to find our hotels. The lads who stayed at The Chester House Hotel (which was the headquarters) had night time do's arranged for both Friday and Saturday night in the club underneath the Hotel.
We woke up Saturday morning to bright sunshine and light winds and after a full English breakfast and a stroll down the prom, we made our way to the TT start and finish grandstand for the big ride out. When we all arrived you could really see how many scooterists had supported Barry's event, there must have been the best part of 200 scooters in attendance, most from the northwest, but some from further afield, Ireland and two guys had ridden all the way from France for this event.
12.30pm saw the start of the ridout, which was in the opposite direction round the TT course than the bikes normally do, so we headed out over the mountain section first and enjoyed the marvellous views down into Ramsay from the top. The half way stop was Gingers pub at Sulby, which was ideal and very relaxing, with the following section down through Kirk Michael having lovely twisting bends which were superb scootering roads and you could really start to understand how this island is perfect for two wheels, whatever you ride. The final section skirted close to Peel and cut back across the island through little villages and back down to Douglas. There was just time for a sit down at a quayside cafe for afternoon coffee and then it was time to gather at the Ferry Terminal ready for the second rideout to Peel. Just as we were getting complacent with the hot and sunny weather, half way to Peel the heavens opened and a we all got caught in a heavy rain shower. However it was well worth it as the town of Peel is quite unique with very narrow streets and we soon found ourselves down at the quayside at a lovely pub that Barry had selected, after an easy ride back it was quick change for Saturday night's entertainment.
We all woke on Sunday morning to a perfect sunny seaside morning and after a full english breakfast some decided on a little rideout over to Laxey, while others just chilled out in Douglas until lunchtime when it was time to go and get the ferry home.
The ferry crossing home was trouble free and very calm and we docked in Liverpool at about 4-45pm. It was a nice idea of Mike Wilford to ride over and meet us off the ferry and we set off through the old tunnel and down the A41 and back to Chester, "edit" with the Chester lads just missing a massive thunderstorm on the way home, but unfortunately the North Wales riders rode straight into a torrential storm.
I think that everyone had a really great week-end due to the good weather, good company of fellow scooterists, but most of all the great organisation and hard work put in by Barry Turner and Debbie, so a big thankyou Barry and Debbie from all the Chester Scooter Club members who attended, roll on next year.

New Brighton - Storm The Fort Run 2007
Try this link for more pictures, see if you can see yourself !!!
http://www.vespa.org.uk/cloud9-07-lancs.html
After picking up some of the lads at The Yacht pub on the way up the Wirral we made 13 scooters in total, which was a pretty good show. The weather gods were kind to us today and it got brighter and brighter as we we went up the wirral and when we arrived at The Fort the sun was shining, the tide was in and there was a fresh smell of ozone off the sea. However there weren't many scooters when we arrived, but by 1pm that had changed and the whole parking area was soon full of scooters from all over the north west.
Well done to John for winning best vintage Lambretta in the custom show with his lovely TV 200, which was well deserved, hard luck to Darren, but at least you have had your TV featured in Scootering. It was nice to meet up with a few people I hadn't seen for a while, Karl on his Blues Brothers, and Eric Larkey, even Barry Turner was on two wheels this time. It was nice to meet Dave's mate from West Kirby again (sorry forgot your name), who turned up riding a Raleigh Runabout pedal start moped, which was something different and in lovely condition.
Anyway here are a series of photographs of the day taken by Dave, you can click on the slideshow for larger images if you want.

Leek Jesters Scooter Run
The good weather kept up on Sunday and 4 scooters left The Grosvenor, picking up Gavin at the rugby club making 5 in total. We all had a smooth trouble free run over to Leek, bumping into Carsy's Northern Aces in a 'fag break' lay-by. The Jester's put on a fantastic event which was very well supported by scooterists from all over the north west and the midlands, with lads from Wolverhampton, Walsall, Manchester and even some of the guys from Llandudno made the trip. The Hog Roast was delicious and there are so many pubs around the market square in Leek that you can't go wrong, the young lads in the band were very 'LOUD' but very good in a sort of Arctic Monkeys Stylee.
We all left around 3 pm for the ride back to Chester, going back the same way through Stoke and Nantwich, but both Bernie and me had minor breakdowns due to spark plug problems, but hey ho that's scooters for you.
The full set of pictures of the day will be loaded up soon.

Into the valley with the Nomads
Into The Valleys Ride Out |
Click on the image above for pictures.
The rotten weather forecast kept most of the club off this rideout ,so when Judy and I arrived at Macdonalds on the a55we were pleased to see Andy,Joe and Brian waiting for us .The sky was brighter to the west and by the time we turned off at St Asaph the drizzle stopped ,by Betwys yn Rhos we had sunshinearriving at the meeting point outside Conwy by 11.45 . Most of the Nomads were already there and Trevor and mates from Northwich .The Chosen Few turned upand Wrexham S.C.,lots of others then the big surprise Cloud 9 with Big Jimmy and all Birkenhead lads. By the time we left on the rideout up via llanwrst to Betws y Coed we must have got over 60 scooters together ,not bad for a first time event .Good place to stop with everything a scooterist needs ..petrol,beer ,fish and chips, coffee and great scenery all on our doorstep..The run back took us down the west bank of the Conwy valley via Dolgarrog and into Conway town with a short hop over the bridge into Llandudno Junction to our destination pub .The last 20 minutes of a football match on the widescreen t. v. seemed important to many ? ! but most hung out in the carpark ,comparing experiences/faults /scooters and how to find your way home from here ,without using the a55 !! Barry Turner had decided to go back via Rhyl and the old coast road as he had too many close passes on the way down . It was good to see him out on the scooter again instead of on his stall . All thanks must go to the Nomads for agood ,well marshalled rideoutwith an excellent halfway stop venue . I must add that the "Man of the Match " for me has to be "Dangerous " Dave Williams of the Chosen Few who turned up for this rideout, even though next day he was setting off with his thirteen year old son to ride alone to the Island of Elba off the Italian coast. Its a round trip of 3000 miles and to make it even harder he is going on a Vespa !! Good luck Dave +son make sure you come back in one piece ! Sorry for the miserable "only four photos? "but my batteries gave out !

Rideout to Salop Scooters
We drew a few hard stares from some of the bikers when we parked our hair dryers amongst the assorted Harleys, Plastic Rockets and well restored old machines including a Triumph Bonneville on a " c " reg ...1965 a bad machine to see in your scooters mirrors at that time !! Still it was Petes idea to meet there and with coffee @ .50p and breakfast @ under 3 quid it was a good place to go . Six scoots left the greasers cafe and we took the scenic route via Hodnet village to Salop Scooters .
Tinas J125 Starstream is being rebuilt by this outfit ,and of what we have seen so far they are making a good job of it . There is always a friendly welcome ,even though they must need to press on with the workload . While we were there an unmarked Police car turned into the yard ,turned out the cop is a fellow scooterist ...you cant tell the cowboys from the indians these days !
We made our way back via the Durham Heiffer where Ade and Lisa treated us to sandwiches in the beer garden behind the pub ,and with Real Ale ,sunshine and superb view of the Peckforton hills it was very difficult to leave and make our way back to Chester . Thanks to all who made it such a cracking day out . I will ask Graham to post the photos .
Hope the weather is good for next Sundays rideout with the Nomads to Glan Conwy .
