TAKE A LOOK AT THE COMMENTS ON THIS AS THERE ARE SOME UNCLAIMED RAFFLE PRIZES !

Chester s.c.toy run 2009

click HERE for photos The day was cold but with bright sunshine and no wind it helped to encourage seventy one scooters to turn up for this annual Toy Run .This year for a change ,the donations of toys were being split between the Countess of Chester Hospital childrens ward and the Ellesmere Port and Chester home for battered wives .We would like to thank all the firms and individuals who donated toys .As another new idea we held a raffle in aid of the breast cancer unit of the Countess Hospital ,Chester .Due to the great generosity of the traders and individuals connected to the club, the prizes were top quality and the raffle raised over £178 ! Thanks to all who gave so generously .
The ride took the usual form of the meet up at 12 with plenty of time for coffee and bacon butties for those having travelled a long way on a cold morning. We started for the hospital at one with Pat our landlady bravely accepting a lift on the back of Tomo's scooter being ridden by George . Andy played the role of Father Christmas this year .
The route to and from the hospital was through a very busy Chester city center with the usual havoc caused to the traffic at junctions by trying to keep 70 scooters together . After a half hour pause at the hospital whilst Santa delivered the toys ,it was back to Clubbies for food, drink, and to draw the raffle . Most made a move for home by 3.30 ,mstly due to the early lighting up time and the fact it was getting much colder .Thanks to all the Scooter clubs and individual riders who came .Without you there wouldnt be a toy run at all . Special mention to the lads who came all the way from Anglesey to do the run .
Thanks must also go to our always enthusiastic landlady ,Pat, and Andy, for giving us the venue. Special thanks to Tracey and Bernie for the organising ,collecting toys and pushing the rest of us lazy buggers to do something!Last but not least thanks to Elvis for having the raffle idea and going round to individual firms and begging some fantastic prizes !Well done that man !! Hope to see you all on next years run .

Charity Event at The Sycamore Garden Centre - Sat 28th November

Hi everyone, I've had a message from Phil Blaylock from Liverpool Scooter Club about an event this Saturday at the Sycamore Garden Centre on the A41 at Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port, if anyone fancies an early ride out (providing the rain Gods keep away).

We have been approached by Keith Robertshaw from the Sycamore Park garden centre on the A41, near the A5117 at Backford Cross in Cheshire. Keith has invited us to arrange a scooter rally for up to 50 scooters at his garden centre. This will tie in with the Christmas event which he is hosting at the garden centre. Keith would like us to attend the garden centre at 9.30 on Saturday the 28th of November. We will then follow the Father Christmas float, leaving the garden centre at approximately 10.15. The route will take us from the garden centre to Ellesmere Port, and then back to the garden centre. This is a journey of about 6 miles, and we should arrive back at the garden centre at approximately 11am. We will then display the scooters until 3pm, during which time we will be allowed to collect money in buckets for a charity of our choice. If we are not able to attract sufficient members/scooters for this date, the invitation is extended to us for any week-end in December. If you would like to take part, can you please e-mail Ernie Lundstrom (address on home page), or ring him on 07877-909478. As this event is in Cheshire, we will be inviting our friends from Birkenhead Cloud 9 to join us, and also some of our scooter friends from Ellesmere Port and Chester depending on numbers. Keith has put a great deal of hard work into organising his Christmas festivities at the garden centre, and will be arranging all the P.R in conjunction with the local press.

It would be great if some of you could join us.

Cheers Phil.

Southport Rally write up .

In traditional Chester scooter club style we got off to a very late start, due to a herd of cows and Brians exhaust vibrating loose .We decided to forget about the meeting point and the mass ride into Southport and head directly for the free Lancashire hot pot lunch ! The waterproofs were on as the four (Andy,Brian ,Elvis , Dave ) trusty Lambrettas left Chester ,but we left the rain behind as we got out of the city . It was cold and grey and the Mersey Tunnel was a welcome warm up .Its a pity the "city of culture " couldnt find a few quid to to repair the potholes ,they get worse every time we go through .
Our timing into Leo's bar in Southport was perfect, just ahead of the arrival of the mass rideout, reputed to be between three and four hundred this year ,so we got served and got a seat !The traffic wardens were left outside scratching their heads as to what to do as more and more scooterspitched up on the pavement outside !The hot pot lived up to its name ,though the bread was missing this year, for mopping up the gravy ! We stayed for a couple of hours, watched some early departures leave in the rain ,then rode home on the same route without incident and nice and dry ! A good rideout and many thanks to Mad Gaz and the Southport scooter clubs for organising it

Rhyl Scooter Rally Rideout 2009

It's Rhyl Scooter Weekender over the weekend of 18th to 20th September at The Robin Hood Holiday Camp as usual. Looking at what we did last year I suggest we meet at The Grosvenor Arms (Clubbies) at 10am on Saturday 19th and aim to get down to Deeside Leisure Centre for 10.30am to meet the North Wales lads and if we have time we could make a stop at the same pub on the bypass by Prestatyn.

Shady Oak Mini Scooter Weekend - Saturday 5th September

Just to remind everyone that it's the Shady Oak pub scooter rally this Saturday, there is camping available for anyone wanting to stop overnight at £5.00 a tent. There's a disco and food on, but I'm not exactly sure what time it kicks off, but I would imagine from afternoon onwards.
For anyone who doesn't know where the pub is it's in the lanes by the canal near to Tiverton and Tarporley, overlooking Beeston Castle.
There is a map and also a little video from their website http://www.shadyoak.co.uk/video.html

Liverpool Scooter Club Fun Day 2009

A very enjoyable day was had all round, although me and Wilf missed the bacon butties at Clubbies as we picked up the scooters outside the Countess. Well done to Liverpool Scooter Club for organising a good event at a lovely venue and well done to Gary for picking up another trophy for best Lambretta and Carl Keplis for winning yet another best custom Lambretta trophy with Zulu. I liked the old american cars, so apologies for rather a lot of pics of them.

Dave do you want to add any comments ? Thanks Graham for the photos ,I took some to put on the blog, but Picassa seemed to have changed their set up and it is defeating me at present ! Just to add that the catering at liverpools do ,from the van in the middle of the field ,was of a very high standard, and not expensive, well done that man !It always a shame that clubs put in a big effort to organise a days rideout when some scooterists are "getting off home " within an hour of arriving .Luckily Chester s.c. members have a good reputation for being some of the last to leave, and this is not lost on the organisers ,so well done Chester!

Nantwich Ride Out Report

An excellent turn out of scooters coupled with a hot sunny day made this ride out a great success, many thanks to Aynsley and the Dabbers S.C. for the organisation both at the Broxton meeting point (sorry we were late getting there, but we blame Simmo and the Liverpool lads for eating too many M'c Donalds on route to Chester !!!). The pub venue of The Railway was very good and the Paul Weller acoustic set in the rear garden was top quality and very relaxing.

Shewsbury Rideout Report

10 scooters left Clubbies around 10-45 with the weather cloudy and breezy with no sign of the previous evening heavy rain. It was nice to see some new faces joining us with John from the Northern Aces, Dave Pritchard from the Port and the young Greg Littler on a 50cc twist and go which was easily keeping up with the Lammies and Vespas.

We stopped at The Raven cafe just the other side of Whitchurch for a brew and bacon butty and even had some of the bikers coming over to have a look at the scoots. As we arrived at The Red Barn pub in Shewsbury the sun was out, the northern soul was playing and the real ale in the pub was spot on. A big thanks to The Severnside Lions S.C. for putting on a really good event, with burger bars, ice cream vans and even a mini rideout around Shewsbury town centre.

Just to cap the fantastic day out Dave Baker won best Lambretta for his TV 175, John from the Northern Aces on his Vespa GTS won furthest travelled prize and Andy Swarbrick won a bottle of wine in the raffle. A nice ride back through Ellesmere and Overton capped off a really good day. This is one rideout I would highly recommend for next year.

Severnside S.C. Shrewsbury Rideout

Looks like the weather gods are being kind to us again ! Rideout is ON so as Graham posted anyone wanting to come, meet at Clubbies (Grosvenor Arms Handbridge ) at 10.15 to leave at 10.30 .We will leave Chester on the A41 (Sainsburys roundabout ) for Whitchurch, then on to the A49 to Shrewsbury for anyone who wants to pick us up on route. As usual all scooterists are welcome to ride with us .

Sevenside Lions Scooter Club Family Fun Day

Dave recieved this flyer from The Sevenside Scooter Club from Shewsbury who are holding a Family Fun Day on Sunday 12th July. If there is enough interest we will organise a ride-out to the event from Clubbies, keep watching the website for arrangements.
----EDIT----
I've spoken to Dave and he's up for a ride to Shewsbury and so is Wilf, so that's 3 so far with me.
What we decided was to meet at Clubbies this Sunday the 12th at 10-15 leaving at 10-30, it's about 40 miles to the pub venue, so it will probably take about an hour and a half allowing for a break on route. So if your free and fancy trying a new ride-out for a change, please try and make it on Sunday.
P.S. Don't forget it's also the Frith Beach Scooter Weekender this weekend, if anyone wants to take a run over there instead, further information from Barry Turner on 0151-356-8384.
EDIT No.2
As the weather looks to be wet but clearing for Sunday, you can give me or Dave a ring on Sunday morning to make sure it's still on - Graham - 07799002680 - Dave - 07773669330. But I think we will be OK after checking the weather report.

Moel Famau Ride Pictures

After a wet start to the ride it turned into a dry humid evening later on, so thanks to the Chester and North Wales lads for coming along and making it into a very pleasant night. Not quite the full sunset view I had in mind but very nearly and a very nice pint was had by all after at The Loggerheads Inn. I'm sorry for missing out the lad on the GTS from the group picture at the top, I don't know what went wrong there !!

Tuesday Evening Rideout to Moel Famau

As the Wrexham ride has been cancelled and the weather forecast looks good for Tuesday night, I thought it might be nice to have a run up to Moel Famau top car park to take in the views of the Clwydian hills as the sun sets. I have mentioned it to Dave and he is up for it (well it's only up the road from his house), he also knows a good real ale pub nearby for some refreshments.

I suggest meeting at Clubbies at 7-45pm and leaving at 8pm, it's about 15 miles and if we go down through Saltney and up through Broughton to Padeswood and Mold, it should be a pleasant ride, fill your tanks up then we don't have to make petrol stops. If any local clubs fancy joining us for the ride please come along.

Sunday morning saw ten scooters leave Clubbies for Jesters at Leek, first stop Vicars Cross for Gav to refuel (its an old tradition !)It rained most of the way there, this was due mainly to Elvis having won the pools and bought himself a state of the art waterproof suit !We arrived at 12.15 and the town square was packed with scoots despite the weather. The site is ideal, with a good pub backing onto the square do great beer (hydes)and good food quickly. The band this year were the Modfellas who did a great mix of the favourite tunes .Barry Turner commented this would be a great band for Dave Buckleys Chester do's,and I couldnt agree more . Weather had dried up and the sun appeared briefly while the band were on and we were some of the last to leave at 3pm straight into some of the worst prolonged rain we have had for a while. The A500 out of Stoke was flooding on the inner lane in parts making safe riding difficult ,but all the scoots kept going fine although we were all getting soaked .Thanks to Andy for picking up my disc "i" cap up after I hit a huge pothole in Chester on the slip road to go round the park at Dee bars !Its a killer !Thanks to all who rode with us in less than ideal conditions . Dave . Update on the Modfellas, just been on their website and they are booked to play Divas Show Bar in Chester on September 12th .A date not to be missed !

See you Sunday.
There is an advert in May Scootering page89 for details of the event . Dave .

Modfathers @Divas club

Last Saturday night saw a good turnout by Chester s.c. members and friends for what turned out to be a cracking night out .Dave Buckley,Steph and family organised what I think was their best gig yet ,and all for charity. The Paul Weller tribute band "The Modfathers " were top class, giving a really proffesional performance, both visually and musically,it was just like having Weller in the room !First set was modern weller plus the odd Style Council number .After the break they really got the crowd with them as they started into more Jam numbers .The dance floor was full and everyone Ispoke to was made up with the gig .Thanks to the lads in the band and we hope you come back to Chester again !

Dave Buckley has been asked to organise the do on the 19th of June for the Ska tribute band "Complete Madness " ,by the Divas club management and tickets will be on sale soon at £8 .Its a FRIDAY night so dont miss out as these tickets will go quick .

Nomads Into The Valley 3 Ride-Out - Sunday 26th April

This Sunday is the North Wales Nomads ride-out and Dave has asked me to put a post up. Some of the Liverpool lads are coming over for this one and Dave has arranged to meet them on the Wirral and lead them to the meeting point at The Diner+Petrol Garage on the A55 just past the Mold turn off (St' David's Park/Mold turn off junction).

So the leaving time from Clubbies will be 10-45am to get to the Diner on the A55 for 11-15am. I'll only be going on this one if I get my scoot back together after electrical problems, so it may be best to give Dave a ring on Saturday to check with him. Dave Baker - Mobile - 07773-669330

An additinal starting point has also been arranged by Bernie and members who were at Tuesday nights meeting .Meet at the Deeside Leisure Center (ice rink) at 10.30 and then ride up to the Diner on the A55 as above .Apologies for the confusion on this ride out but Im sure we will all get to Llandulas A55 Diner for the start at 1pm ,all the best ,Dave .

Ska Borough tale (part 2 )

Itook this photo two hours after the previous one ,at 3.30 pm Saturday. We spent a couple of hours killing time in a wet, cold ,seaside town and as we came back up these two were kick starting the scooter and it went 3rd kick ! They had changed barrel, piston, head ,reid valve inlet manifold and re jetted the carb, refitted and re-connected all the cables .Only thing still on the hotel front lawn was footboards and sidepanels ! A superb effort in anybodies book . Well done the Preston Lads ! Saturday night was buzzing at the Spa with Bad Manners fronted by Buster himself and standing on the old fashioned wooden dance floor was like being on a trampoline with everyone pogo-ing !
Sunday morning dawned dry so jude and me loaded up the scoot and set a westerley heading riding from a cool cloudy east coast into superb sunshine,no wind and seven hours of riding to Holywell .
P.S.We stopped for fuel 10 miles from Preston and who should come hurtling past (Running In ?? ) but the two likely lads in the photo . To the lads:- if you ever read this send me an email with your names and I will send the photos .Dave .

Ska borough tale (part one)

Eight members of Chester S.C. went to this the first national rally of 2009. Dave Buckley,Stef and family,Steve and Jan Flynn ,Pete and Tina Chadwick and Judy and me . None of us rode up ! Friday was good weather ,mostly ,and the evening do in the Spa was great with Basket Case taking on a "Pirates of the Carribean " theme and really working the crowd in the main room . Saturday was the usual choc-a-bloc parts fair .Wandering into town after our pub lunch we came across this sorry sight outside a hotel .A minute after taking the photo the owner and his mate showed up with big card board boxes under each arm ,fresh from the parts fair . The lads were from Preston, about 120 miles away .Halfway through the journey this ts1 lammy melted its piston and not wishing to miss the rally ,was recovered to this pavement ,where the engine was removed and stripped in the front garden of the hotel .The lads had bought a complete ts1 kit to repair it with (about £450 +!! )We wished them luck ,and went off to town .This was 1.30 pm .

Northwich Omega S.C. Ride-Out Sunday 19th April

Just to remind everybody that the next planned local ride-out is the one to Northwich this Sunday 19th April. Trevor was keen to promote this one when he came on our Easter Egg run and there should be a large turn out of scoots if last years Thundersprint day was anything to go by, (this is not the Thundersprint day by the way it's on May 10th).

The meeting place is the same as last year, Junction 10 on the M56/ A49, you need to go across the roundabout at the junction towards Warrington and there is a large side road on the left about a quarter of a mile along. The ride-out is going to the Bowling Green Inn, Northwich, where there will be live music from The Targets. I suggest meeting at Clubbies at 10-15 to give us time to get up to the meeting place.

Wirral Egg Run 2009 (Report)

Rather than put a new post up which would moved our Bunny Run post down the list, I have edited the old Wirral Run post. Well 8 scooters assembled at Clubbies on a very cold and frosty morning and with the clocks going forward it made it seem that much earlier. 6 scooters set off at 9-30 for New Brighton, with Gary and Perry staying behind to work on Gary's SX, which was playing up a bit. We had a very pleasant run up through the wirral and started to meet load of bikers at the Leasowe end, so a slow ride into New Brighton to meet up with the thousands of bikers and a good few scoooters, which were all sheperded into a side road by the stewards. After a long cold wait for our turn to join the queue we finally got going, through Leasowe village and onto Moreton, the huge crowds that lined either side of the road were tremendous all waving and cheeering, with everyone tooting their horns back. After a very long and tortuous journey, which was mainly on and off the clutch, we finally arrived at Clatterbridge Hospital, which was absolute mayhem with hardly any parking spaces left and most of us got separated from each other. However it was great fun to be involved in such a big event and out on the road with so many other vehicles on a lovely sunny spring day - not a bad start to the scootering season.

Who's Going To Eurolambretta in June ?

OK this is probably only for Lammy owners I guess, but has anyone else from the club applied for Eurolambretta tickets ? For anyone that doesn't know it's the annual European Lambretta jamboree that this year is being held at Lincoln showground, from Friday June the 5th to Sunday June the 7th, it's ticket only and quite restricted on the numbers, but I had my ticket confirmation today, so it's going to happen for me at least.

I know big George has applied for tickets, but has anyone else ? Because the next thing to book is some accommodation as I would imagine everywhere will soon get booked up for that week end. If anyone else has made any plans or knows of anywhere to stay please let me know on my mobile no. or e-mail on the contact us link on the side bar. I can't make it to the club tonight, but I will be down next week.

Graham.
