Northwich Thundersprint

Five scooters left Clubbies for this one, picking up Gavin en route. When we eventually found the meeting place at Stretton, none of us could believe our eyes at the turnout of scooters, there must have been over 200 scooters parked up in a super little private road just off J10 M56, loads of lads from all over Lancashire, with Liverpool and Manchester clubs having quite a number in attendance.

The ride-out into Northwich was very well organised by the local club, (Omega SC) with good marshalling holding back the cars so we could get into the town. We parked up at Northwich Glass and filled their carpark, this was in a very good spot as it was only 10 mins walk down to the Thundersprint venue and the weather for this one was excellent, with the sun really beating down all afternoon.

Once we had managed to find a viewing point the cheerleader girls kicked the show off then there was a circuit by an open backed truck with ex-bike champions waving to the crowd including Giacomo Agostini, for those that don't know he was motorbike GP champion on the MV Agusta 15 times through the 60's + 70's and still a good looking bloke even at 65 years of age. There was even a display by one of the last remaining flying Spitfires and very good the pilot was too.

The Thundersprint itself was perhaps a little disappointing with the vintage bikes all doing a timed lap around the main shopping car park, most times averaging around 27 seconds, with the fastest one I saw 24.9 secs. However the grand stands were all full and there must have been thousands of people there for the day out and what's amazing is that it was all totally FREE.

We had a good ride back along the A51 through Kelsall and Tarvin, dodging the speeding bikers all the way back. All in all an excellent and different day out.

Now that was a great day, however I'm very English so would like to complain that it was too hot!

200 plus scooters and only a couple of scoot's broke down on the ride to Northwich!
