Christmas Toy Run Donation

 
 

The raffle at the Christmas Toy Run raised enough money for the club to make a donation to Claire House Hospice of one hundred and fifteen pounds. The cash was taken to Claire House following our ride to the Tap pub on Tuesday 27th . Many thanks to all those who contributed to the raffle prizes and to those who bought tickets on the day .Also a big thank you to Tracey for running the raffle on the day .

Toy Run - Many Thanks

The annual Toy Run to the childrens ward of the Countess Hospital was a resounding success,once again ! Many thanks to all that turned up with a special mention to Fred Turner on his heavily "modded up " Vespa coming all the way from St Helens,mostly alone,well done Fred !Thanks to our great landlady Pat (and Andy !) and staff at the Grosvenor Arms for laying it all on for us . Apart from all our visitors on scooters well done to Chester Scooter Club for a really good turnout and for supplying all the prizes for the raffle ,which raised over £100 for Clair House Hospice.A big thanks to Bernie and Tracey who put in a lot of effort to make this event happen . Finally I'd like to thank The Weather for giving us the best it can at this time of the year !! We were lucky once again !

Shrewsbury Severnside Fun Day 2011

A lovely day out as always at this very well run event, full house turn out as always, great pub, great catering, great raffle and Severnside Scooter Club really know how to organise an event. The only thing that let us down this year was getting lost around the town centre on the way and the occassional rain shower, but a lovely ride back to Ellesmere with a coffee by the lake topped off a smashing day out.

Great weekend was had by all, only marred by the accident that Nigel and Steph had when a van reversed into them at speed in Beamauris throwing them both off the scoot, that's the kind of accident that non of us are expecting, however luckily they both escaped serious injuries and suffered mainly cuts and bruises, everyone at Chester Scooter Club hopes you both get well soon.
It was nice to have Paul + Chris along for the week-end, as they kept us all entertained with their good banter, they were doing the manly thing by camping while the rest of us wimps were in the very snug Liverpool Arms pub. The star act on the Saturday night was Dean Parrish, famous for his hit 'I'm on my way' and for a guy of 69 years of age he did not disappoint as his voice was still tremendous, all in all a great week end only spoiled by the poor weather and Nige's accident.
Although the weather was poor until Sunday, we made up for it with a very good warm ride home in the sunshine, with a nice rest stop at Conway for an ice cream.

More Easter Egg Run Photo's

Fantastic day out in the sun, thanks to all scooterists who turned out to make it such a success, we stopped counting at 104 scooters riding into Clubbies, so numbers were probably in excess of that. Big thanks to Pat and Andy of The Grosvenor Arms for hosting the event and putting on the food and more thanks to Bernie and Tracey for organising the paperwork and trophy and for George for getting on the microphone to make the announcements. Congratulations to Dabbbers S.C. for winning the Best Turned Out Club hope you liked our unusual trophy.

But let's not forget the sick kids at the Countess which was the real reason why we turned out and this year two or three kids came outside to get their Easter Eggs and to have a look at the scooters, so well done to everyone concerned as this event is definitely growing year after year.

Anglesey Scooter Rally 24th+25th June .

This scooter rally is on the same weekend as the Irish Euro Lambretta,so for anyone looking for a much cheaper alternative,within the distance from Chester of a good rideout ,here it is ! Star of the show is Mr Dean Parish coming over from the U.S .specially to do this gig . Entry is by ticket only with a maximum number of 500,200 sold already .tickets are £15 and gives entry to the do on Friday and Saturday nights .Campsite is near by (at extra cost) and there are B+B'S in the town .A rideout is planned for Saturday and there are lots of good pubs on the island .more details on www.northwalesscooterrally.com.You can buy tickets online or from Alan by giving him a call on 07917770643.
This new venue for this (4th)Anglesey Rally should be a big improvement on the previous site at the agricultural show ground as Beaumaris is well set up with pubs,the castle ,good area for rideout etc .Its only about 6o miles to ride each way from Chester and should be an interesting weekend .Anyone from the club who is interested in going just put a your name in the comments box at the bottom of this post .Let me know if you are interested in B+B or camping .

The Tap Run Jan 2011 - Write up + Pictures

A nice turn out of 9 scooters at clubbies on a cold but dry day for a little run up to The Tap pub at Eastham Ferry. For once we were early leaving and arrived at 12-45 at the Tap, just before the liverpool lads so we got served with the drinks and toasties just in time. When everyone had arrived there was an excellent total turnout of at least 50 scooters, which on a cold winters day was pretty good going.

Andy Nico had mechanical problems on the way back, but with Vespa Rally super mechanic Bernie Griffiths on hand, who was assisted by his two apprentices Graham and Andy Swarb, we managed to get a new clutch cable fitted and working in no time, good job you were carrying a spare one Andy !!! All in all it was a very nice new year run to knock off the cobwebs and get back into the saddle.

Ride Safe - Back Safe Campaign

Found this road safety campaign aimed at bikers + scooterists in the North West, probably because the roads and potholes are so bad now with no repairs getting done for a number of years.

Dozens of hazards and just two tyres…

RideSafe BackSafe has just issued the first in a short series of winter advice campaigns for bikers in the North West. Posters are being distributed to nearly 100 motorcycle dealerships, as well as some larger employers, local authorities and the police.

The campaign aims to highlight the need for bikers to prepare properly for every journey and adopt a much more cautious riding mind-set on winter roads. As RideSafe BackSafe spokesperson, Karen Delaney explains:
“Other road users can often just de-mist or de-ice the windscreen, get in and go; but there is a lot more to it for year-round riders. The routine you might follow in pleasant weather is not good enough for winter. We are urging bikers to allow more time to dress properly for the conditions – stay warm and dry and be highly visible – regularly check that your bike or scooter is road worthy and ride cautiously. In all but the very worst conditions, it is still possible to get out there on two wheels; but don’t think that Mother Nature owes you a safe ride”.
RideSafe BackSafe will be issuing further poster campaigns over the coming months and focusing on the need for other road users to show respect and leave room for motorcyclists.
